Hydraulic Equipment Supermarkets was first formed in 1965 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire under the name Hydraulic Services (Cheltenham), before moving to Gloucester in 1966.

In 1968 it changed its name to Hydraulic Equipment Supermarkets - the name they are known by throughout the UK and abroad today.

The company grew in size over the coming years and opened depots in Leeds, Birmingham and Gateshead in 1970, 1976 and 1982 respectively. In 1998 the Gateshead depot moved to Durham, where it is today.

In 1984 the Gloucester head office moved to its current location at Dowco House on Innsworth Technology Park, which is now home to Hydraulic Equipment Supermarkets, Branch Hydraulic Sytems, HES Tractec, HES Lubemec and HES Automatec.

Recently, our Gloucester counter has undergone an extensive makeover, with more products on display and in stock and new artwork!
